Sub:-WAGGGS and Greenpeace “Flag for the Future” Competition.

Dear Sir/Madam,
I am happy to inform you that in June 2012, Greenpeace International launched the Savethe Arctic campaign to get the Arctic declared a global sanctuary, free from commercial mining andfishing and not owned by any one nation.
WAGGGS has signed on to the campaign as a partner. This partnership included two Girl Guides/ Girl Scouts traveling to the Arctic on Greenpeace’s ship the Arctic Sunrise, to make a film about their experiences. This film was released on 3rd December 2012 to launch the Flag for the Future Competition. The Flag for the future competition is a global competition for 6-25 year olds to design a flag that represents peace, global community and hope. This flag will be planted on the seabed at the North Pole to mark the spot where a pod with the names of the millions of people who have signed the Save the Arctic petition will be planted.

How the Competition will work
  • The Competition is open to all 6-25 year olds, not just Girl Guides
  • Entries will be accepted up to 11th February 2013
  • Entries can be made electronically or by post
  • Short listed entries will be voted on by a panel, made up of representatives Greenpeace, WAGGGS and celebrities, including fashion designer Vivienne Westwood
  • The winning entry will be made into a flag to be planted on the ocean bed

The Competition is open to all the young people of the Country. If any member/members are interested in running the competition in the District/State level, they may contact WAGGGS at comms@waggs.org  with a copy to the undersigned.
WAGGGS has set up a section in their website where entries could be posted. They would then need to scan or photograph these entries and upload them to the website, all entries are electronically stored in the same place.
How to submit entries:- You will read in the Terms and Conditions, participants can enter on the website or by post. This is to make competition accessible to individuals who don’t have the equipment to up load their designs.
