Dear Sir/Madam,

What is the Jamboree-On-The-Air?
The JOTA isan annual event in which Scouts and Guides all over the world make contractswith each other by means of amateur radio. Short-wave radio signals carry theirvoices to virtually any corner of the world. It’s the shear excitement ofhaving a live conversation with a fellow Scout or Guide at some other place inthe world that attracts so many youngsters to this event. JOTA is a realJamboree during which Scouting experiences are exchanged and ideas are shared.
The use ofamateur-radio techniques offers an extra educational dimension for Scouts/Guides.Many grasp the opportunity to discover the world of wireless radio techniquesand electronics. Thousands of volunteer radio amateurs assist the Scouts/Guidesover the JOTA weekend with their knowledge.
What is the Jamboree-On-The-Internet?
Similarly tothe JOTA, the Jamboree-On-The-Internet connects Scouts/Guides using Internettechniques. Volunteer organizations like Scoutlink and ScoutNetprovide the necessary technical support and server capacity. The JOTI is heldon the same weekend as the Jamboree-On-The-Air. Units can choose to take partin either one event or both.
The JOTA andJOTI are world-wide events which bring together each year more that 500 000Scouts and Guides. During the weekend, units may normally participate for 48hours or any part thereof, from Saturday 00:00 h until Sunday 24:00 h localtime.
TheJOTA-JOTI is the only event offering to each individual Scout/Guides the experiencethat he or she really belongs to a world-wide movement.
Theme of the Event
The chosentheme of this year is: How Big is Your World
This themechallenges every Scout/Guides to observe the world around him or her andrealise how one’s small actions at a local level could have a huge impact atthe global level.
‘How Big isyour World’ will also motivate Scouts/Guides to consider being part of WOSM’sflagship initiative, the Messengers of Peace (MoP). Every Scout/Guidescan start making a difference in their community by being part of the MoPNetwork.
Finally, this theme is also an invitation to Scouts/Guides to reflect on how they canenlarge their own world by interacting with others, using modern methods ofcommunication. The message to Scouts/Guides is, ‘Let other Scout/Guides friendsfrom around the globe step into your world by sharing your thinking, feelings, emotions, ideas, proposals and projects with them. Share your life experiencesto enlarge your world’
